ISLAMABAD, Jan 26 (APP): The Sindh government has distributed 170,383 Solar Home Systems to households across the province under the Sindh Solar Energy Project (SSEP), a renewable energy initiative.<\/p>\n
According to documents available with Wealth Pakistan, the project is part of a broader plan to install solar systems on public buildings and provide Solar Home Systems to 200,000 households in Sindh, particularly in areas with limited or unreliable access to electricity.<\/p>\n
Approved by the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) in November 2018, the project aims to bridge the province\u2019s energy gap by promoting the use of clean and sustainable solar power.<\/p>\n
While the distribution of solar kits was initially scheduled to conclude by September 30, 2023, the deadline was later extended to July 31, 2025, to address logistical challenges and ensure delivery to intended beneficiaries.<\/p>\n
Out of the total target of 200,000 solar kits, 170,383 have been distributed so far. The kits were provided to eligible households through the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP), with a focus on low-income families across Sindh.<\/p>\n
The Sindh government has now shifted its focus to the remaining 30,000 solar kits, which are earmarked for distribution in rural and undeserved areas. Officials are prioritizing deliveries to remote regions, where access to conventional electricity remains limited.<\/p>\n
The project has had a significant impact on local communities, as solar energy provides a reliable and clean alternative to traditional power sources, particularly in rural areas. In addition to improving energy access, the initiative supports the government\u2019s broader environmental sustainability objectives by reducing reliance on fossil fuels.<\/p>\n
