Hamza Shehbaz Visits DCD, Highlights Power of Digital Media

ISLAMABAD, September 11: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Vice President and former Punjab chief minister Hamza Shehbaz Sharif visited the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting’s Digital Communication Department (DCD) on Friday, where he reviewed its digital outreach, public communication and counter-disinformation initiatives.

Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar, Federal Secretary for Information Ashfaq Ahmad Khalil and other senior ministry officials received Hamza Shehbaz upon his arrival.

During the visit, Tarar briefed Hamza Shehbaz on the department’s various sections, responsibilities and ongoing operations, including the government’s efforts to strengthen communication through digital and social media platforms.

Tarar said digital media had emerged as one of the most effective tools for disseminating information and engaging directly with the public.

He said countering what he described as negative propaganda and fabricated information against Pakistan was among the Digital Communication Department’s key responsibilities.

The information minister added that effectively highlighting government initiatives and Pakistan’s national narrative across digital platforms in line with modern communication trends had become increasingly important.

He said the Digital Communication Department and PTV Digital were playing a significant role in expanding the government’s reach across online platforms.

Hamza Shehbaz expressed keen interest in the department’s ongoing activities and appreciated the Ministry of Information’s efforts to modernise digital communication.

He said digital media had become an important means of providing timely information to the public and communicating government policies and initiatives more effectively.

According to Hamza Shehbaz, effective use of digital platforms could help project Pakistan’s positive image and national narrative to audiences around the world.

He also praised the ministry’s adoption of modern technology and its efforts to improve digital communication systems.

Officials also discussed the use of digital technology, social media and other online platforms to improve public engagement and strengthen communication.

The meeting reviewed ways to further expand the digital reach of content produced and distributed through PTV Digital, while Hamza Shehbaz was also briefed on other initiatives underway in the digital communication sector.

Federal Minister Rana Mubashir Iqbal, Minister of State Abdul Rehman Kanju, Prime Minister’s Media Coordinator Badar Shehbaz Warraich and Special Assistant to the Prime Minister Talha Burki were also present on the occasion.
